No Child or Bunny Is Left Behind

Began a sort-of-cloudy morning with breakfast and Max & Ruby. "Max's Christmas" was the series' first holiday episode. Max is determined to stay awake and actually see Santa, despite his sister admonishing him that the jolly old bunny in red doesn't like that. "Ruby's Snow Queen" will be the most elegant snow person on their block. Max is more interested in his Screaming Green Gorilla. Ruby keeps trying to get her brother to go down the smaller hill on his sled, but he would rather ride "Max's Rocket Run" with the big kids.

Continued with the DVD as I cleaned up from breakfast and got organized. Ruby wants to learn a new skating move in "Ruby's Figure Eight," but she keeps having to drag Max away from Roger's hockey game. "Ruby's Surprise Party" is for Louise. Max just wants the cake with icing roses and keeps telling Ruby to "surprise" the wrong bunnies. Valerie and Ruby want to put up "Ruby's Tent" for a merit badge. Max pretending to be Super Bunny keeps getting in their way.

After breakfast, I dusted the music and most of the entertainment area for a few hours. The dusting needs to be done rather badly. I put it off last month to concentrate on writing, and because I knew I'd be doing major cleaning this month. I have so much stuff in here, it takes a while to move everything and dust under it. That's why I only do heavy dusting twice a year. That, and it wrecks havoc on my nose. I was sniffling for a lot of the day.

Broke at noon for writing. I hadn't finished the entertainment area, but I wanted to get some in. Poe and BB take the elevator downstairs. Poe explains that Benjamin Solo is mean because he's a bit spoiled, and he thinks his always-busy parents don't love him. He was sent to boarding school, then to his Uncle Luke, and is now determined to prove in any way possible that his ideas are best. BB doesn't think Ben's troubled childhood excuses his present behavior, and she's really upset that he accused her brother of stealing.

They arrive in the toy department. While BB goggles over My Little Ponies and Transformers, Poe greets his co-workers and good friends Finn and Rey. He's interested in Rey, who may also be fond of him.

Had lunch at 2 while doing one more Max & Ruby episode. Max wants to play pirate, but his sister is more interested in "Ruby's Tea Party." She finally finds a way to compromise after he uses her jewelry box as a treasure chest. "Max Is It" when Ruby, Valerie, and Louise play freeze tag at the park. He just wants the candy in Ruby's backpack. Louise and Ruby are working on a volcano for "Ruby's Science Project." Max keeps wanting candy, but he has something else he wants to do with it besides eat it!

Work was really busy when I arrived, the busiest it's been the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I spent most of the first half of my shift outside doing carts. It slowed down enough by the second half for me to get the inside and outside trash and recycling done and gather baskets. Picked up whole wheat pancake mix on the way out, which I forgot yesterday.

Hit the shower as soon as I got home. Finished the night with Arthur Christmas. Arthur (James McAvoy) is the clumsy younger son of Santa Claus. He loves working in the mail room, responding to children's letters and telling them about Santa and his magic. Trouble is, by the 21st century, that magic has been replaced with an enormous flying saucer of a sleigh, run by his older brother Steve (Hugh Laurie). Steve's a brilliant leader and a genius with electronics, but not really much of a people person. He brushes off the fact that one child's gift was left behind. Arthur is incredulous. How could they let even one child lose her faith in Santa? Grandsanta (Bill Nighy) claims he can get Arthur there in his his original Santa sleigh, along with a wrapping elf (Ashley Jenson), but he may have his own reasons for wanting the package to be sent.

This is such a sweet movie. What I like about it is no one is set up to be the villain. Steve and Arthur's different ways of seeing Christmas aren't entirely right or wrong. Grandsanta may be a jerk, but he does come around to Arthur's way of thinking in the end. Even the countries who think the sleigh is a UFO and try to shoot it down are less evil than paranoid. There's some wonderful comic moments too, especially with Grandsanta in the ramshackle sleigh that never seems to end up in the right place.

It's really a shame that this was a flop on first release in 2011. It's a fun holiday film that truly deserves to be better-known.
