Started off the morning with a quick breakfast and a little bit of writing. Jeff takes Mackie and Betty to Maple's Buttery Inn in the heart of Brooklania, a slightly run-down part of Yorkalia City. The place is not in the best of shape and filled with noisy white crystal miners, but it's clean. Maple turns out to be an attractive redhead who knows Jeff well. When Mackie tells her he's an actor and he has something from Scott Sherwood, she's even more accommodating. Scott's an old buddy of hers, and they need a new act at the bar to amuse customers.
Did some spooky Backyardigans while having muffins for lunch. Poor Austin the assistant is upset when his boss Mad Scientist Tasha seems to have forgotten his birthday in "Scared of You." She sends him to retrieve Mummy King Tyrone, Werewolf Uniqua, and Vampire Pablo instead. This proves to be no easy task when it turns out these three monsters are desperately afraid of each other and everything else!
Work was on and off steady, busier than it has been but nowhere near as crazy as the weekend was. The weather was gorgeous today, sunny, windy, and in the upper 60's, as perfect as it gets in early October in Southern New Jersey. Most people were probably outside cleaning up after the messy weekend. Other than a few cranky customers, there were no major problems, and my relief was on time.
I had just enough time for another episode of The Backyardigans while I ate leftover meatloaf and a watercress and tomato salad with home-made red wine vinegar dressing for dinner. Pablo, the World's Greatest Detective, is asking "Whodunnit?" when he comes to Mystery Manor and Lady Tasha's jewels are stolen! Was it Tyrone the Butler? Or Lady Tasha's neighbor, Austin Frothingslosh, who had to leave suddenly? Or the mysterious Uniqua Underhood, who somehow knew about the theft before it happened?
Oh, and I called Rose this morning. I'm going to borrow a smaller suitcase from her tomorrow morning, after Khai goes to school.
