Hurried off to work as soon as the record ended...and I was still ten minutes late. Not a good thing, as we were massively busy today with long lines. In fact, this is probably the busiest we've been since before Christmas week. I didn't have much help this time, either. The morning bagger was there for the first hour, and they pulled one of the college boys to help push carts in the last hour. In between, I did everything myself, including sweeping, cleaning up a big milk spill in front of the dairy cases, and cleaning up a mess in the women's bathroom. It was cold and gale-force windy, too. The sun was in and out all day, but it did emerge long enough for a lovely red and gold sunset before I went home.
Checked the Eagles game score throughout my shift and when I got in. I'm afraid the Eagles aren't going to the Super Bowl this year. The 49ers simply out-ran them, especially in the second half. They won 23-19. To tell the truth, I didn't really think the Eagles were going to get to the Super Bowl again after they played so badly during the second half of the season, but I did hope they'd last a little longer in the playoffs. (At least they made the playoffs. The Chiefs didn't, for the first time in years.)
Took a shower, grabbed dinner, did a few chores, then finished off with tonight's Match Game marathon. This one had more episodes featuring numbers or counting. I arrived just in time for the episode in 1976 where Scoey Mitchelll and Charles Nelson Reilly switched seats and personalities. Brett turned up next to Charles for the first of two weeks, along with Vicki Lawrence and Ronn Lucas and his dragon puppet Scorch in an episode from 1990. In an episode from the summer of 1976, Gene announced that Richard would be hosting a brand-new show called Family Feud in the fall...which would pass Match Game in the ratings to become the number one daytime game show a year later. Brett wasn't too happy about the answer to a question that Lynn Deerfield gave earlier in 1976, while everyone argued in 1978 over whether "sailor" matched "man."
Play the Numbers Game and learn to count the Match Game way in this wild marathon!
