Had less trouble getting to work than going home. I got a driver this morning in two minutes. My original driver this afternoon canceled. I had to get a second, and it didn't show up for 9 minutes. Fortunately, there was no traffic either way.
The Acme wasn't a problem, either. I did have to put away meats, bags of breaded seafood, and giant bags of frozen chicken when they caught a shoplifter trying to run out with them. Other than that, we just weren't that busy. It's the end of the month, we're between holidays, and the weather was gorgeous today, sunny, breezy, and almost in the 60's. It was too nice for shopping, I barely had to round up carts. Picked up more of those half-priced sliced mozzarella balls and a container of macadamia nuts that were half-price on the way out.
When I got home, I put on Let's Make a Deal while I changed into regular clothes. A very nervous older cowgirl who kept bouncing around won $3,000 on the Door 4 Wheel. Another couple dressed as carnival barkers later tried for a car, but they opted to take furniture when they weren't sure of their prices on a guessing game...which proved to be a good choice when they were way off on the sweeper. They both got terrific prizes on the Big Deals of the Day, especially the cowgirl with her encyclopedia and electric typewriter.
It was so nice, I went back out to run errands after the show ended. I needed a second lamp in my bedroom. I couldn't find one at Family Dollar, but I did pick up a very simple one with a wooden base and a burlap shade at Dollar General. Been meaning to pick up light bulbs anyway.
Took the laundry downstairs, then looked at the book on women and ADHD for an hour when I got home. I wish I understood how to deal with this better. All I ever wanted was to be the same as everyone else. It's hard for me to accept that I'm not. I've been made fun of and put down and criticized all my life for being different. All I want is a decent job, so I can make enough money for a home of my own.
Did some job hunting after I put the laundry in the dryer, then had dinner while watching Match Game '76. Gary Burghoff screams out his answer for what someone has to spray the food with, making Brett wonder if she's gone deaf next to him. There's also the jokes for "Ronald ___" in the Audience Match, including Richard's Ronald Coleman imitation and cracks at the then-governor of California.
Returned to job hunting after that, then brought the laundry upstairs and watched Match Game Syndicated. Gary sticks around, and we're joined by Joyce Bulifant and Holly Hallstrom. Gene happily touts his new wardrobe by John White of Palm Beach, and a contestant admits she's a member of Brett's fan club. We also see Charles hold up the "boring" sign that is used so often in memes. In the second episode, Gene proves he does not wear elevator shoes, lets the others feel his camel-hair coat, and shares "cologne" with Charles.
Finished the night at Dailymotion and YouTube honoring long-time Wheel of Fortune hostess Vanna White, whose birthday was last week. White was a struggling actress when she made her first TV appearance as a contestant on The Price Is Right in 1980. She didn't make it onstage, but Bob did joke that she kept admiring herself in the TV monitors.
After original hostess Susan Stafford left Wheel of Fortune in 1982, Vanna was one of three interim hostesses who tested for the role. She became the permanent hostess in December. Even when she was just turning letters, her chemistry with Pat Sajak and million-watt smile made her an indispensable part of the show. She was so popular, they kept her on, even after she was just switching letters on monitors instead of turning letters by the late 90's.
Vanna did occasionally try other things. She played a round for charity near the end of a 1989 episode while Pat finally got to turn the letters. In 2019, she hosted a week of Christmas episodes while Pat was recovering from emergency surgery. Since the week was also Disney-themed, Mickey and Minnie Mouse got to be the co-hosts and turn letters. Apparently, she would do it again for one more week in January 2020, this time assisted by Sajak's daughter Maggie.
Buy a vowel and flip letters with the Queen of the Wheel in these classic episodes!
