It's the Fall Harvest, Charlie Brown

Began the morning with breakfast and Alice's Wonderland Bakery. Alice says "Here Kitty Kitty" when the Cheshire Cat is blue because there's no one around like him. He sees pink cat's paws and thinks he's finally found his family. Even when he doesn't find them, he's reminded that he still has a found family of wonderful friends. The kids learn about "The Bread and Butterfly Effect" when they take too many of a certain flower that may make wild carrots taste delicious, but also nurtures the Tulgey Wood. They have to return the flowers and remember that what they do effects others, and animals and plants need those ingredients, too.

Hurried out to the Collingswood Farm Market soon as the show ended. I arrived at 11:30, as they were starting to wind down. Even then, they were still packed with people looking for produce to serve at their Halloween weekend parties. The fall produce is out in full-force now. The grapes and melons are gone, but I saw hard squash, peppers, tomatoes, and pears. Ended up with small Stayman apples, plump Asian pears, and a bag of pretzel rolls from one of the multi-grain bakery booths.

At least the weather was gorgeous for a farm market. Though it remains windy, it was also a little warmer, probably into the lower 60's, and sunny, bright, and blue. Couldn't be nicer for early November.

Went home and watched It's Magic, Charlie Brown while I put everything away and got organized. Charlie Brown tells Snoopy to learn something, so he takes up magic. His attempt to show off his new skills doesn't go so well, until he turns Chuck invisible. Snoopy's prevented from changing Chuck back at first due to a rain storm. Chuck's horrified, until he realizes that Lucy can't move the football if she can't see him coming...

Called Uber after the cartoon ended. They arrived in 8 minutes, probably not bad given it was a Saturday afternoon. There was a little traffic in Cherry Hill, but nothing horrible. We arrived at the new Mission BBQ around quarter of 1.

Mission BBQ replaced Lands End in the corner building at the front of the Market Place shopping center. In fact, I think they literally just opened three days ago. From what the eager and enthusiastic servers said, they specialize in hand-made burgers, sandwiches, and meats, never frozen or microwaved. I went with a simple Smokehouse Burger with slender skin-on fries and a Diet Mountain Dew. Oh wow, that was amazing. Thick and juicy, with real cheddar cheese. The fries were a bit too salty, but the burger was incredible. Not only did they give me a coupon for a free sandwich on my next visit, but I got a free beef brisket sandwich, too. (Lunch on Monday!) They also heavily support the Armed Services. I sat under a line of Navy football uniform prints.

I was in and out of a few stores next. I need jeans, both in general and for work, and I'm still looking for socks. No luck in the small-scale Macy's, though I did get socks at the Gap. Tried coffee ice cream at something called The Sugar Factory, which had a bar and a dining area and basically seemed to be "The Cheesecake Factory with ice cream and candy instead of cheesecake." The ice cream and chocolate syrup were ok, not worth the price I paid, or that for some reason, the server thought I wanted two of them.

Had more luck at Barnes and Noble. Found a Christmas present for Jessa, something my mom gave Rose and me years ago that I thought she'd appreciate, too. I wanted to get the vinyl soundtrack for KPop Demon Hunters on Amazon when it came out last week, but I would have had to wait a week or more for shipping. Barnes and Noble had it for the same price. I hear it so often at the after-school program, I might as well have the soundtrack! Found the latest Mercedes Lackey Elemental Masters fantasy novel Miss Amelia's List in hardback on the clearance cart for 40 percent off.

Briefly peeked at TJ Maxx before I headed across the parking lot to Trader Joe's. They were busy, but the lines weren't that long. I just ended up buying fruit bars for snack at the after-school program, the PB&J oat bars, and my favorite dried orange slices and coconut strips.

Had more trouble with the Uber going home. I was going to take the bus, but it would have been too long to wait. I probably should have taken the bus. Even leaving from Shake Shack, the parking lot was still so busy, I almost missed the driver! He wasn't happy about that. At least I did find him, and he drove through the back roads of Cherry Hill and Westmont to avoid the traffic. We got in around quarter of 5.

Watched Willy McBean and His Magic Machine next. I go further into the first theatrical stop-motion animation movie made by Rankin-Bass at my Musical Dreams Movie Reviews blog.

Finished the night with today's Match Game YouTube marathon. Match Game never really got into Halloween in the 70's and 80's. It wasn't until the 1990 show that they finally did a Halloween-themed episode, with decorations and everyone in costume. The closest they got to that was in 1974, when Charles was late for a taping and head producer Mark Goodson briefly replaced him. After Charles got in, they had a question about what he'd dress as for Halloween.

People turned up in costume more often than you might think. Jon "Bowser" Bauman always appeared on the show dressed as his Sha-Na-Na "Bowser" character. Gene wore a white wig and claimed he was Old Man Periwinkle in one syndicated episode. (Actually, he was playing Scrooge in A Christmas Carol and wanted to try the wig on.) Later in the syndicated series, he turned up with his head wrapped mummy-style. Debralee Scott and Jonnelle Allen joked about a contestant who resembled Barry Manilow in a PM episode, and Debralee spoofed the then-frequent commercials for the K-Tel rock collections.

Celebrate Halloween weekend with all your favorite weirdos in this hilarious marathon!
