Spent the rest of the morning posting more parts of Hilary and the Beasts at my writing blog and listening to the soundtrack from Zootopia. With a second movie coming out in theaters this November, I thought this was a good time to revisit the original. "Try Everything" was the uptempo hit here. As this is a police comedy, not a mystery, that's the only song, but we do get the instrumental tracks with hilarious names like "Work Softly and Carry a Big Schick" and "Three-Toed Bandtio."
Didn't even have the time for lunch before I hurried out to Thomas Sharp School. I ended up eating that with the kids. We had even fewer today than yesterday, though most of them were younger kids. In fact, I think we had maybe two older kids and nine younger ones. Yes, we did take them outside again. It was hot, in the upper 80's, but there was also an absolutely wonderful, chilly wind that felt delicious. The swings were a lot more popular this time, probably due to them being in the shade. I had to remind the kids that everyone else needed a turn. When I came in, I colored in pictures of Roblox and Merida from Brave with some of the kids, then drew the scene I wrote yesterday with Prince Victor meeting Maple and a later one of Scott and the just-shorn Maple in the wilderness before they said I could leave early again.
I didn't go home right away this time, though. I cut through Newton Lake Park, dodging dog walkers and joggers on a hot, sunny day. Started at the Westmont Acme, since that's closer to the park. I mostly needed yogurt, soda, and granola here. They still have those 20 ounce bottles of Fresca. Got a coupon for a dollar off my order online, along with coupons for apples and grapes. Went up the road to Sprouts next for dried cranberries, sparkling water, coconut milk, and caramel-chocolate chip cookies on clearance. Neither place was remotely busy, despite it being rush hour when I got there.
Watched Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood when I got home while I put everything away. "Daniel Goes To School" and brings all the things he loves, like his drum and his favorite book. He's thrilled to discover that yes, they play music and build with red blocks at school, so he doesn't need his own...but they don't have anything like his favorite stuffed animal Tigey! "Daniel Goes to the Doctor" for his first check up, discussing everything he'll do, like watch fish in a waiting room and get his ears and heart checked, with his mother and Doctor Anna beforehand.
Worked on Maplepunzel next. With Pavla distracted in Berlania, Maple is free to spend a delightful summer in the tower with Victor and Scott. She plays music with Victor and teaches him how to dance. He spent his time at school in Yorkalia studying, never going to dance halls and taverns like his younger brother Jeffery. She bakes him goodies, makes him tea, and introduces him to her woodland friends Eugenia, Foley, and Walter the bear. Victor is utterly enchanted with her free spirit and joyous nature. He kisses her after they dance, and they end up making love tenderly afterwards.
Switched to Storybook International at Tubi while I worked. "The Haunted Pastures" is a variation on Grimm's story "The House In the Woods." This time, three sisters have to search for cows that wandered away, the old man is trapped on a hillside rather than a house, and there's no animals to feed. The spoiled sisters just don't help the old man. The one that does discovers he's really an enchanted prince, and the house where they took shelter in the storm is his castle.
"The Widow's Lazy Daughter" won't work and daydreams all the time. Caught beating her after she lets the porridge burn, her mother claims she's an industrious girl to the prince. She has to prove it with spinning, knitting, and weaving...but three kind fairies help her out and show that maybe daydreaming has its own merits.
Moved to Match Game Syndicated during dinner. Though we start with Debralee Scott and Fred Travelena, most of tonight's episodes featured ace Dodgers pitcher (and later commentator for the Atlanta Braves) Don Sutton, Vega$ co-stars Bart Braverman (and his kazoo) and Phyllis Davis, and Marcia Wallace. It didn't really come across well on the air, but Marcia apparently wore a sweater with a light-up version of her name.
Finished the night with Hart to Hart. They're "Million Dollar Harts" when a Baron convinces Jennifer to transport a million dollars he won at a London casino to the US. Jennifer's shocked when she finds a briefcase full of play money instead. There's at least three different groups who are a little too interested in that stolen money, including a Texan gambler who thinks Jennifer is good luck and a British inspector and his turncoat partner.
