That, thankfully, was by far the worst thing that happened all day. Despite the rain petering out by 10:30, the Acme stayed quiet the entire morning. It picked up slightly around 11:30, then went right back to being quiet. I had no problems getting off on time, changing, or picking up maple sandwich cookies on sale.
I had lunch at Applebee's. They were as busy as the Acme had been quiet. I must have caught the tail end of the lunch crowd. My grilled chicken ranch sandwich was delicious, moist and flavorful, with their crisp, salty fries.
Picked up Uber here. This time, I managed to get them in 8 minutes...and went home. I had originally planned on going to the Thomas Sharp School from Applebee's, but the weather had turned sunny and breezy. There was no longer a reason to take Uber to the school. I could ride the bike.
Watched a couple of cartoons when I arrived and got organized. Donald's "Winter Storage" of nuts is disrupted by Chip and Dale trying to get their paws on his acorns. Likewise, "All In a Nutshell" have the two chipmunks invading Donald's nut-shaped nut butter factory to get their paws on Donald's tasty product.
I did indeed ride my bike to school. Barely got there on time, which wasn't a good thing. We had a full house today, made even more so by the fact that we can't use the library this week. It's the week of the school's Book Fair. I'm so happy that they still do Book Fairs. I looked forward to Book Fair Week when I was in elementary school. Possibly due to their new purchases, they were pretty rowdy inside. They were tumbling all over each other in the halls and barely settled down to hear Leo the Late Bloomer and Pete the Cat.
Things went much better once we got outside. By 4 PM, the sun was out, the sky was a radiant blue, and the breeze was cool and fresh. If it wasn't for a few puddles on the street around the school, you'd never guess it even rained this morning at all. I did have to argue with a few of them about spending too much time on the swings - some of the girls in particular would stay on the entire time if allowed, and there's only two swings - but for the most part, they happily ran around and chased each other to the tune of "Doing the Flamingo," "The Floor Is Lava," "Love Is an Open Door," and songs from KPop Demon Hunters. Like I told the kids, the sudden transformation from a rainy day to perfect weather was the magic of fall at work.
Headed straight home and into The Goldwyn Follies. I go further into this peculiar blend of ballet, weird comedy, and great Gershwin songs at my Musical Dreams Movie Reviews blog.
Switched to Match Game '76 after the movie ended. Caught the tail end of the week with Avery Schiberer, Jo Ann Pflug, and Fannie Flagg. Despite Brett's teasing her, Jo Ann (who always was one of the smarter women to sit in the fourth "ingenue" seat) did very well, getting most answers right.
Finished the night with the original cast album for Nice Work If You Can Get It, which also features Gershwin songs. This reworking of Oh Kay! basically changes Kay's name to Billie and adds a truckload of extra Gershwin tunes, including the title song. I don't know if I buy Matthew Broderick as the oft-married Jimmy, but Kelli O'Hara made a charming and spirited Billie. Not the most necessary thing in the universe, but if you're a fan of the leads or the Gershwins, it makes for a pleasant listen.
