Called Uber after that...which probably wasn't the smartest thing I could have done. It cost me three times as much as usual to take Uber to the Cherry Hill IHOP. The weather was cool, gloomy, and humid, far cooler than it has been. I'm not sure it was even in the 70's. It took the driver 7 minutes to arrive. There was some traffic in Pennsauken, but they still pulled up in the full IHOP parking lot about 20 minutes later.
I'd never seen that tiny IHOP so full! It was 1:30 when I arrived, which likely has a lot to do with it. It was the first time I'd ever seen the dining area on the side near the bathroom used. The crowds gradually cleared as I enjoyed scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, hot tea with honey, and Double-Blueberry Pancakes (blueberry pancakes topped with blueberries and syrup).
I had considered hitting the thrift shop next to the Cherry Hill Mall, but it was past 2 by the time I finished lunch. I figured it was too late to mess around over there and went straight to the mall instead. Stopped at FYE on the way over to JC Penney. Rolling Stones albums are usually pretty expensive, even used. I was shocked to find Their Satanic Majesties Request for $21.
I mainly went to the mall to get under wire bras. Mine were badly stained and worn. Thing is, I don't like the padded ones that seem to be everywhere. I have plenty of my own padding. I don't need more! It was buy one, get one 30 percent off, so I bought two in white and tan, plus an additional tan bra.
Stopped and got a frozen lemonade from Aunt Annie's next, which is around the corner from the main entrance and the bus shelters. After I spent so much on Uber getting there, I decided it would be a lot cheaper to take the bus home. It was about 10 minutes late, but there was a reason for that. The traffic on Cuthbert Road was terrible. A 15-minute ride turned into a half-hour. I was finally home by 4:30.
Watched Remember WENN when I got in...or tried to, since the DVD player kept blinking in and out. It's not-so "Happy Homecomings" when Betty hears another voice playing Johnathan Arnold on the radio and fears for Victor's safety. On advice from station lawyer Doug Thompson, she finally opens the strongbox to learn the name of Victor's contact. Meanwhile, Scott learns what Quist didn't - there are still codes going out over the airwaves, but in pre-recorded commercials, not anything the staff performs. He walks right into a standoff when it turns out Pruitt is even nastier than a mere financier, and Victor Comstock has returned...under Nazi brainwashing...
Yeah, these are the infamous cliffhangers that left the entire WENN fandom screaming for six months, from December through June 1998. Longest six months of my life until the mess with trying to find housing in late 2021-early 2022. The third season is still overall my favorite of the entire series. While Jeff is missed, everyone else is firing on full strength. Some of the best and most dramatic episodes can be found in the third season, including "From the Pen of Gertrude Reece," "Mr. and Mrs. Singer," "Who's Scott Sherwood," and "Happy Homecomings." This is when the show moves from a sitcom to the heart-pounding comedy-drama that continues to make it beloved among fans to this day.
Got the fourth season rolling with the much-anticipated "Some Time, Some Station." Victor accidentally shoots Pruitt, then comes out of his brainwashing thinking it's 8 AM and time to start the broadcast day! While Scott and Betty try to ease him out of it, the others all turn up, reacting to Victor suddenly being alive. Hilary, who hasn't forgiven Jeff for marrying another woman, tries to avoid him, while Maple's more than happy to flirt with the hot balding guy in the uniform.
Went into writing Hilary and the Beasts next. It's now fall, and the household is preparing for Halloween. Hilary and the girls are now convinced that Jeff and his friends are being held in or around Pittsburgh. They've called everyone they can think of, and no one has seen them. Hilary even swallowed her pride and called Grace Cavendish. Grace is worried about Victor and wishes she could get back together with him, but hasn't seen him.
Meanwhile, Betty, Maple, and the household maid Puppy (Enid) have come to the conclusion that, if Jeff and the guys aren't anywhere else, they have to be in Pittsburgh. They've been searching the house for the missing men along with putting up Halloween decorations. Bear (Scott), shuffling into the library for his writing lesson, ends up joining them. Hilary and Troll (Jeff) are having lunch together when the quartet emerge from the basement, covered in coal dust and cobwebs. Hilary sends them all to get baths or showers, while Troll admonishes Bear and Puppy to do their chores and insists that the men Hilary seek may be closer than she thinks...
Watched Hart to Hart while working on Hilary and the Beasts. "Harts and Palms" takes the Harts to Maui on vacation. Jennifer is convinced there's murder afoot when she overhears the wife of one of Johnathan's business buddies planning to murder her husband. She tells Johnathan, and they chat with the health-obsessed businessman...but when it's the wife who turns up dead, they have to figure out who was really doing the plotting.
Got my schedule at this point, too. It's the busiest it's been in months! The head bagger must have gone on vacation, because I work for most of the week. I only have Wednesday and Thursday off. This is the last week of the summer program, too. I'm going to be swamped.
Switched to Match Game '76 during dinner. Bert Convy was more than happy to flirt with several contestants in these episodes. He was joined by the double sass team of Fannie Flagg and Patty Duke.
Finished the night at YouTube for Mystery Science Theater 3000. Mike and the guys get stuck on The Phantom Planet, a super-low-budget sci-fi from American International Pictures. An astronaut from 1980 (Dean Fredricks) is shrunk due to the planet's atmosphere and falls for a dark-haired, mute resident. About as silly and low-budget as sci-fi can get, this does have a few interesting ideas, including the idea of these tiny people living on-planet.
