Dashed off to the farm market after that. It was supposed to rain today, but despite it being hot and humid, it remained sunny. Several booths and the musicians were missing, likely due to the bad weather that never appeared, it was still very busy with people buying food for barbecues and birthday and graduation parties. Peas and raspberries are gone, but I saw fresh New Jersey melons for the first time today. Ended up with yellow plums, strawberries, and peaches.
Made a quick stop at WaWa on the way home. Thought I'd try the Brownie Coffee Smoothie. Not bad, but there was still too much coffee flavor and not enough brownie. I picked up two more Olipop sodas as well.
Hurried home after that. Watched Descendents: The Rise of Red while making my bed and vacuuming and Swiftering. I go further into the latest movie in Disney's Descendents series that just dropped on Disney Plus yesterday at my Musical Dreams Movie Reviews blog.
I wasn't sure if it was going to rain or not, and it was just too darn hot for bike riding. I called Uber after I ate lunch. They arrived in 7 minutes going to work. I barely got there in time. The one going home was supposed to arrive in 7 minutes as well, but it felt more like 10.
Work was steady when I came in, but it died out late in the afternoon, to the point where I barely had any carts to push by 6 PM. I'm guessing either the heat and supposedly impending rain scared everyone off, or they all went to those barbecues and parties I mentioned earlier. I swept the store, pushed carts, and gathered the trash with little trouble besides fussy managers.
Soon as I got home, I changed, grabbed dinner, and finished the night with the Match Game marathon. Comedienne and author Fannie Flagg started out on the show in late 1973 and quickly became one of the most popular semi-regulars. She started out sitting in the fourth "ingenue" seat, but had graduated to the sixth seat by mid-1974 and would remain there whenever she turned up straight into the syndicated run.
Probably her most famous episodes were the three she spent flirting with handsome high school teacher Ron Valenti. She even danced with him at one point. There was also the time she turned up in a Girl Scout uniform and saw Brett walk off after her named turned up in a question about who gives the dumbest answers. She loved appearing in costume. Her other dress-up opportunities included "Greta Garbo" in a white hat and bobbed wig and in a long red wig and Brooklyn accent that made her look and sound like Maple LaMarsh.
My favorite of her early episodes is one that was so hilarious, it's on legitimate DVD. During the week in 1974 with Steve Allen and Kay Ballard, she first walks off with the other panelists when the contestant flat-out answers "boobs" to a question. Later on, Gene inadvertently asks Fannie to show hers...er, her answer, that is. Richard has no problems showing the panel his chest.
You never know what this southern-fried favorite will turn up as next in this hilarious marathon!
