Stormy Weather Matches

Began the morning with breakfast and the soundtrack from Lilo & Stitch. Lilo was a huge Elvis fan, so most of the vocal numbers either feature him ("Suspicious Minds") or are covers of his songs by then-popular bands ("Can't Help Falling In Love" by the A*Teens). The best non-Elvis song is "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride," a rollicking chorus number from when Stitch learns to surf for the first time.

I have no idea how the soundtrack for the fireworks show Fantasmic wound up at Phidelity Records, considering I don't think it was ever sold outside of what's now known as Disney's Hollywood Studios. Not only that, but research reveals it's long out of print. I do have the main fanfare from the Disneyland version on one of my Classic Disney CD collections, but apparently, this one is slightly different. The music is still pretty decent, though; that main fanfare is particularly stirring.

Worked on the rock album inventory while the CDs were on. Did the remaining two titles for Bruce Springsteen, along with Supertramp, Train, James Taylor, and Tina Turner. I'll finish up the single rock artist titles after work tomorrow, then start on the rock collections. (It'll be too hot to do much else on Tuesday!)

Not only was it still too hot for bike riding, but there were still supposed to be storms kicking around. I called Uber. The first driver canceled, but I called early enough to get a second and still arrive at work in plenty of time. The one going home took 11 minutes to pick me up, though there was no traffic when she did get here.

Though it wasn't bad when I got there, it must have been a lot busier this morning. The carts were a disaster when I arrived. I spent the next two hours running around, trying to gather them alone in the heat...and then, as dark clouds gathered on the horizon, before those dark clouds burst. Five minutes after I dashed inside, the rain came down, and it poured like mad. At least that gave me the chance to round up the overflowing outside trash. I swept, then went back out to get any carts I missed once the storm passed.

Soon as Uber dropped me off, I went straight in the shower, then spent the rest of the night watching the second Fannie Flagg marathon. Flagg remained one of the most popular semi-regulars straight through to two weeks on The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour in 1984. She also turned up on some of the funniest syndicated episodes, like the time the panel walked off-stage after an audience member got a better answer to "__ Balsam" in the Audience Match than them. She and Brett were late arriving for her last day; later, when she got "__ Rebellion" in the Head-to-Head, Brett wonders why anyone would rebel against whiskey! There was also when Brett wore a t-shirt saying "You'll be famous by Friday," and Fannie's shirt said "It's Friday!"

Fannie had fun on the original 70's run, too. She came to an episode in 1978 wearing her nurse costume from her brief cameo in the beginning of Grease, claiming to be Brett's nurse. Fannie sat in for Brett during New Year's week 1977 when the latter was out doing a play. (Brett was NOT in jail, as they joked during that week and the PM episode).

My favorite later Fannie episode (and favorite daytime episode period) is the one from early 1977 where she, Richard Dawson, and Jo Ann Pflug imitated Charles, Brett, and Dick Gautier respectively when only the lower tier answered a question. Though Richard was hilarious as Brett, it was the ladies who really stole the show. Jo Ann and her big wide smile was perfect, and Fannie made a hysterical Charles in his cap and pipe, calling Richard "Susan" and making snarky comments. I'm always on the floor during that segment.

Keep matching with this beloved southern belle comedienne in this hilarious marathon!
