Started off a cloudy, cooler morning with breakfast and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. I'd already seen all the episodes on the second disc, but I loved "The Perfect Pear" so much when I saw it the first time, I ran it again. Applejack and Big Macintosh are shocked when Apple Bloom buys a jar of pear butter from an older colt named Grand Pear at the market. There's a huge feud between the Apples and the Pears...but it turns out that their mother was a Pear. The trio go to older ponies who knew their parents to get the full story and heal the rift between the families.
Spent the next few hours writing. In Charles' dream, he's a poor minstrel who can normally count on getting a job playing for the court of Queen Beth and King Allen. His return to the Kingdom of Columbia is not a pleasant one. The normally friendly people hide in their homes and avoid him, and everything is colorless and dour. A guard at the gates of the castle reveal that a wicked queen invaded the land, imprisoning the royal couple and banning music, laughter, and performing. He's no longer welcome there.
Broke for a quick lunch and to get ready for work at 12:30. I ran two Monkees episodes today in honor of Rip Torn, a fussy character actor who passed away over the weekend. Torn first turned up as a very upset roulette manager in "Monkees On the Wheel" during the strange second season. Micky Dolenz inadvertently wins a gangster's money on Torn's rigged wheel. He and the other Monkees have to figure out how to prove that the gangsters are the ones who really cheated, or they're going to end up in jail.
Work wasn't really too bad. It was steady for most of the afternoon, though it thankfully calmed down later in the day. Though I did do some sweeping and bagged, I was mostly outside doing carts or rounding up the trash. No wonder we slowed down. By 5 PM, the clouds had vanished, and though it remained a little humid, it was also sunny, breezy, and beautiful.
Had quick canned Italian Wedding Soup when I got home. Returned to The Monkees for Torn's second - and far stranger - appearance. He's the evil Wizard Glick in the oddball series finale "The Frodis Caper" who intends to use an alien to control everyone's minds via television. The Monkees have to somehow stop Glick's machine and rescue the alien. It ends on a much quieter note with a lovely song by Tim Buckley.
Ended the night after a shower with my first of two fairy tale musicals this week, Hans Christian Andersen. I go further into my favorite Danny Kaye vehicle at my Musical Dreams Movie Reviews blog.

Actually, it was Rip Taylor who just died. Rip Torn passed away in July. Easy mistake to make. James even said "I thought Rip Taylor had already died."
