Hurried out right as the cartoon ended. I wish I hadn't. Work was a pain in the rear today. It wasn't bad when I came in, but the crowds picked up and got more annoying around 11:30-noon. It's the beginning of the month. We have a lot of people who buy huge carts of food they can't afford, and I end up having to put away most of it. Apparently, two guys tried to claim the same Instacart order, too. That put me behind sweeping the store and gathering the carts. Didn't help that it remained sunny, hot, and murderously humid, though the wind picked up as the afternoon went on.
Not thrilled with my schedule, either. In good news, far more hours...because the head bagger went on vacation and they have only one other person who can work weekday mornings. I don't have off until Thursday, though I do have Thursday and Friday off. Wednesday is an 8 and 1/2 hour day, and I work too early for the farm market again next Saturday.
Did this week's grocery shopping after that. Had online coupons for plums, peaches, and yogurt. I thought I had one for bakery cookies, but it didn't come off. The orange Poppi sodas were still 75 cents each; they also had Culture Pop on a good sale. I got two each. Not only did they have the smaller bottle of Listerine Gum Therapy I wanted, it came with a paper coupon. Grabbed water for the ride home.
Put on PAW Patrol when I got in. "Pups Save the Soccer Game" when Mayor Humdinger challenges Mayor Goodway to a soccer match. Trouble is, not only did he damage one of the goals, but Goodway's team consists of little Alex, Chickaletta, and a bunny. The pups fix the goal, then join the game with the help of Rubble's Rocket Kick! Clumsy Marshall is delighted with a fancy collar that's his prize for winning a race and insists it's lucky. He continues to believe in its luck even when they're rescuing a baby owl on a breaking branch. "Pups Save a Lucky Collar," but Marshall ends up learning that some things are more skill than luck.
Spent the next couple of hours adding P through S titles to the soundtrack inventory. Titles that went in today include The Pirate Movie, The Princess Bride. Popeye, Quadrophenia, Reveille for Beverly and Jam Session, the TV show The Roaring 20's, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the 1965 version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Roller Boogie, Saturday Night Fever, Snow White and the Three Stooges, Star! with Julie Andrews, three Star Wars soundtracks, and three collections of MGM musical soundtracks. Many of these go way far back. Saturday Night Fever was one of the albums from my first stepmother Kaye's original collection, and I don't remember where I found the soundtrack from The Empire Strikes Back.
It was supposed to rain earlier, but it was still sunny when I got home. It didn't start to rain until around 5:30-6 PM...and when it rained, it thundered. We had at least three big storms through around 11 PM. It seems quiet now, but I think there's more storms coming this weekend.
Broked for a quick tuna sandwich and Match Game Syndicated at 7 PM. Buzzr jumped back into the early days of the syndicated run with these episodes. In the first show, Debralee Scott complained about her chair not sitting right. Unlike when Bob Barker or Bill Daily had chair problems, Gene gave her a large, comfortable chair to sit in. In the second, we find out why Gene doesn't call himself Eugene when "Eugene __" comes up on the Audience Match.
Moved to Summer Rental on Paramount Plus after dinner. Jack Chester (John Candy) is sent on vacation at Citrus Cove, Florida with his wife Sandy (Karen Austin) and their children after he nearly has a breakdown at his job as an air traffic controller. Things don't go so well at Citrus Cove, either. Their rental proves to be a decrepit shack on a crowded party beach, and Jack angers the local sailing big shot Al Pellett (Richard Crenna) when he's bumped at a fancy seafood restaurant.
That bumping does lead him to Scully (Rip Torn) and his floating seafood restaurant the Barnacle. After Jack is laid up with a bum leg, Scully teaches him to sail. That proves to be useful when the owner of their beach house dies, and Al takes over and threatens to throw them out. Jack says if they can beat him at the town regatta, they get to stay rent free. They rebuild the Barnacle into a seaworthy vessel with the help of Jack's family and Scully's crew, but Jack is the only one who knows which way the wind goes...and who can truly prove he's as much a sailor as anyone.
Typical 80's summer family vacation movie gets a lift from Candy and Torn's very funny relationship, especially when Jack is learning to sail. Not the most necessary movie in the universe, but worth a look if you love Candy, Torn, or 80's comedies.
Finished the night at Tubi with The Scooby Doo Show. Mystery Inc runs into even scarier treachery on the high seas when "There's a Demon Shark In the Foggy Dark." A professor believes a demon shark has defrosted from a block of ice and stolen priceless pearls from an Indian collection. As usual, Velma thinks there's a more likely explanation. Shaggy and Scooby just wonder why they keep running into oyster shells.
