Kicked off a cloudy morning at work. It showered briefly at one point, but it was mostly cloudy, breezy, and humid. I also rounded up baskets, shelved items, and did the trash outside. The head bagger came in later and took over most of the few indoor chores. Other than getting stuck in the register for about 15 minutes shortly before I left, I spent most of the day outside doing carts. It was even quieter than yesterday. We're between holidays, and many folks may be waiting for their tax returns or the kids to get out of school to do major shopping.
Went straight home, changed, and made a chocolate banana-spinach smoothie for lunch. Watched Bugs Bunny Bustin' Out All Over while I threw everything together. This anthology of three Chuck Jones-directed shorts has a late spring-early summer theme. A very young Bugs dodges little Elmer and his pop gun in the first segment. The second has Bugs being brought to Mars by Marvin the Martian to be the pet of his abominable snowman George. Wile E Coyote and the Road Runner have fun with their usual chases in the third.
I felt a few fat drops as I headed down West Clinton and across the White Horse Pike. They were gone even before I made it to Newton Lake Park. A few people were out and about, including dog walkers and a couple coming back from a stroll or a picnic. The park is just so green now. The leaves are almost at their peak, such a deep shade of emerald that it almost glows.
The Haddon Township Library wasn't much busier than the Acme had been. It was probably just as well. There were tons of DVDs to put away. Once again, the kids' racks were overflowing, to the point where I couldn't fit most of the new ones in. Did much better with the adult shelves, fitting in all but a few.
There were a lot of new DVDs in this week. I grabbed Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindlewauld, Ralph Breaks the Internet, the first season of Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers, and the newest set of Minnie Mouse "Happy Helpers" episodes. Decided to give The Dark Knight Rises a second shot. I'll be reviewing High School Musical 3: Senior Year in honor of the end of the school year on Saturday.
The clouds were still pretty dark when I made it to the library. By the time I was heading across the street to Target, the clouds were clearing, revealing a sunny and hot late afternoon. I just wanted to see if Target had magazines or sponges. They only had a few magazine racks (and not what I was looking for), but they did have sponges, for a pretty decent price, too.
Went straight into writing when I got home. Fettman and Harris "Millennium Falcon" Arietta face off. Fettman not only wants the coolant for his current boss, but his other boss, Jake Hunter, is still after Harris for not paying him. Luke, however, won't let him grab them...and neither will Mara Jadeson, who bursts in to film the whole thing and get it on the news.
Broke for dinner at 6:30. Made chicken stir-fry from vegetables in my crisper and leftover chicken cutlet while watching the first few "Happy Helpers" episodes. They're "Pop Star Helpers" when singer Nina Glitter (probably a parody of Nickelodeon star JoJo Siwa) asks for their help setting up her show and getting her to the stage. Minnie plays stage manager, corralling the boys to help her get the equipment together. Daisy has a more difficult time reigning in Nina and her Glitterettes. When they're late for the show, Minnie, who isn't a bad singer herself, has to overcome her shyness about singing and placate the crowd.
The Happy Helpers are thrilled to be hired by Colonel Pete to bring together "The Beagles," who just broke up before their big concert. The trio insist that their major music award has gone missing. The girls have to find out who took the award and mend the misunderstanding between the trio. (The Beagles are probably intended to be a cross between the Beatles and the Jonas Brothers.)
"Daisy's Photo Finish" has the trio helping Daisy's cousin Almada take a photo of a certain rare bird in the Amazon Jungle for Brazil's largest bird convention. Daisy's more interested in sniffing orchids at first and tends to be too noisy, until she's the one who figures out what attracts the bird.
Moved to Lego Pirates of the Caribbean after a shower. Went back to the beginning and started Free Play with the Port Royal round of Curse of the Black Pearl. Did much better here, picking up six more pieces and more studs (though not True Pirate).
Finished the night with another pirate yarn, the 1983 version of Pirates of Penzance. I go further into this adaptation of the 1981 Broadway revival at my Musical Dreams Movie Reviews blog.
